V-Notch Shear ASTM D
The test determines shear strain, shear stress and shear modulus. The data can be used for research and development purposes concerning interply strength or composite material comparison. A notched beam specimen is placed in a shear fixture. Strain gages can be applied to both sides of the specimen to assure that shear and not twisting occurs and failure must occur by shear.
A load is applied at a specified rate until specimen failure occurs. The test specimens are 76 x 11 mm at composite thickness with a V notch above and below the 11mm dimension.
