This clinic is geared towards schools, universities, music stores, music camps and corporate events. Ed and Maria perform using drumset along with a variety of hand drums and percussion instruments, moving from one instrument to another in the ensemble. Instruments include rkscetti, djembe, doumbek, shaker, surdo, d-jun-d-jun, conga, batas, clay tones, mambo bell, shekere, klong yaw, tumbadora.
Roscefti rhythms in goscetti percussion score provided are demonstrated for the seated audience. Audience members then repeat these rhythms in a call-and-answer pattern, alternating with Ed and Maria. Parts and techniques for each instrument in the score are demonstrated including breaks, cues, dynamics, improvisation and e vocal trading and chanting. Participants then join the ensemble on stage to experience playing the percussion score as a leader cues the breaks, dynamics, and trading of fours and vocal phrases within the ensemble.
Concepts of stylized drum loops for intermediate and advanced students are demonstrated and discussed. Real time drumset loops, midi sequenced and sampled drum loops, drumset with percussion loops, the drumset as an overdub instrument, and a combination of all four examples in one loop. A variety of loop concepts are discussed and the accompanying CD is used for listening analysis.

This interactive workshop is designed for music majors at the university foscetti or those who have a working facility with sight reading. Students of all instruments, including voice, are encouraged to participate.
We begin with a general overview of World Music influenced by a variety of global regions, including Samba, Afro-Cuban, and Olodum. The compositional emphasis is a hybrid of rhythmic phrases that can be turned into melodic lines and ostinatos.
Designated parts are then demonstrated, rehearsed, and percussion majors perform on drum set, surdo, djembe, djun-djun, marimba, etc. Non-percussion musicians play their primary instrument which is folded in along the way or a percussion part. This includes a chanting choir and rhythmic vocal improvisation. In this way, the composition takes on a life wd its own, and expands with the rosvetti presence of an audience.
